Connecting policy, science and industry to underpin development of future farming systems. This was the theme of the first CEUKF Conference held on 20 and 21 November 2011 at Chesford Grange near Warwick.
This was a not-for-profit event organised by the Centre of Excellence for UK Farming and Farming Futures for the benefit of the community, working together to secure a sustainable supply of UK-produced food. An innovative programme was designed to catalyse sharing and partnership opportunities through interaction and engagement, bringing together major research sponsors and deliverers, food producers, processors and retailers.
Delegates and speakers discussed the opportunities and methodologies for working together to help the farming industry address the challenges ahead, to embrace innovation, and specifically to debate ways of securing the UK’s domestic food supply base.
Speakers included Rt Hon Jim Paice MP, Lord (Donald) Curry of Kirkharle, Peter Kendall (NFU), Professor Bill Davies (Lancaster Environment Centre), David Gibson (Moy Park), Calum Murray (TSB), David McAllister (BBSRC), Dominic Dyer (Crop Protection Association), Professor Tim Benton (UK Champion for Global Food Security).
